NOTE: Unfortunately, I do not have time to run this club as I had hoped. Ideally this club would simply run itself, but it does need some moderation and I do not have the time to do it. If anyone would like to replace me as a moderator of this club, let me know (note me at my TheNathanator account if you are interested). Otherwise, good luck to all of you metrical poets out there! DA is rough on us in my opinion, and that's why I wanted to have this club. But alack, alas, someone else will have to take charge if this club is to be successful.

List of Metrical Poetry on DA |

This is the beginnings of what will hopefully become a successful community for metrical poets.
For the time being this page will simply serve as a place for poets of a feather to flock together. Eventually other activities could take place, such as featuring poetry and poets, and running competitions.
---

If you would like to learn how to use meter, or need help with a specific metrical poem, please send us a NOTE with a single poem you would like help with. A good place to start would also be to read this article, by `

Once you've created a metrical piece of poetry, you're welcome to join.

Competition

Write a
new poem in a
nonstandard meter. Nothing iambic, please. Be creative and don't make it too long or short (under 30 lines but over 6, it doesn't have to be perfect but it needs to be reasonable).
Contestants must participate in voting, and all members are encouraged to vote.
Entries will be re-posted by ~
PenWieldingPoets as deviations, with a link back to the original as well as a link to your other metrical poetry. ~
PenWieldingPoets doesn't want to be taking any potential comments from your entry, so we will direct all comments back to your original post.
Winners will receive a fav from ~
PenWieldingPoets, and our fav gallery will serve as a hall of fame for this and future competitions.
---
To Join
1) Watch us.
2) Send a note to ~
PenWieldingPoets (subject: JOIN) with a link to at least one of your metrical poems, and a description of what meter your poem is written in (whether it is accentually or syllabically metered, but it should showcase your ability). If there is no description of the meter you are using in the note it will be ignored.
You will be DevWatched if you are accepted.
Once you're a member
You will be responsible for creating and maintaining a list of your metrical poetry (which you will post as a journal on your homepage) and a link to your list will be placed
*here*. This list will be necessary if you want to be a part of competitions and will also be a great way for you to direct members to poetry you want special attention given to.
NOTE: If you have been watched by ~
PenWieldingPoets and you didn't go through the steps to join then you have already been recognized as a metrical poet. If you're interested in joining please return the watch, and follow the "Once you're a member" instructions above.

"True poetic rebellion lies in writing in metrical and fixed structures - thus deviating from the norm!
Thumb your nose at Modernist and Post-modernist freeverse by being different from them all!" - Quoth the `
darkcrescendo.
"Trochee trips from long to short;
From long to long in solemn sort
Slow Spondee stalks; strong foot, yet ill able
Ever to come up with Dactyl trisyllable
Iambics march from short to long;
With a leap and a bound the swift Anapests throng."
- Samuel Taylor Coleridge

You figure out why. I think this is a club I would like to join...I don't write enough metrical poetry as it is...and Robert Frost did say he despised anything in free verse.
Hmmm. Anyway, will send a note. Latah.
